Users can now access an extra security level on Meta’s WhatsApp messaging service. With this move, WhatsApp joins an increasing number of American tech companies that allow consumers to choose more robust hacker security in exchange for a more limited user experience. The new feature, “Strict Account Settings”, is a one-click button in WhatsApp’s settings that initiates a number of safeguards.These include muting calls from unknown contacts, banning media and files from unknown senders, and turning off link previews, which are the thumbnails that show up when a URL is typed into a chat window.
