Amid its bid to double down on its India presence, US-based AI giant Anthropic has inaugurated its first office in the country in Bengaluru. The company said India is now the second-largest market for its AI assistant Claude, with nearly 50% of local usage driven by computer and mathematical tasks related to application development and software deployment. Additionally, Anthropic said that educational and instructional tasks make up 12% of Claude’s use in India, including by non-profit organisations Pratham and Central Square Foundation. Overall, Claude is being deployed in critical sectors like judiciary, agriculture and healthcare, especially for underserved communities. “India represents one of the world’s most promising opportunities to bring the benefits of responsible AI to vastly more people and enterprises. Already, it’s home to extraordinary technical talent, digital infrastructure at scale, and a proven track record of using technology to improve people’s lives,” Anthropic India’s managing director Irina Ghose said.
