The Centre will help states in setting up five regional medical hubs to promote the country as a hub for medical tourism, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said during her Budget 2026 speech. Under this, the central government will launch a scheme to support states in establishing the regional medical hubs, in partnership with the private sector. “These hubs will serve as integrated healthcare complexes that combine medical, educational and research facilities. They will have AYUSH centres, medical value tourism facilitation centres and infrastructure for diagnostics, post-care and rehabilitation. These hubs will provide diverse job opportunities for health professionals, including doctors and AHPs (allied health professionals),” the FM said. The move is expected to further add momentum to the already rapidly increasing Indian medical tourism industry. As per a report by Mordor Intelligence, the industry is poised to breach the $22 Bn mark by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 12% from $12.32 Bn in 2026.
