The Delhi government has launched a new welfare initiative called “Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana” aimed at strengthening financial security and educational support for girls in the national capital. The plan, which is an upgraded version of the older Ladli Scheme, will provide structured financial assistance from the time a girl child is born until she completes her graduation or diploma, helping families invest in education and reducing economic barriers to learning. Announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the scheme will begin implementation from April 1, 2026 and is expected to cost around ₹160 crore initially. It is designed to ensure that no girl drops out of education due to financial constraints by offering periodic deposits into a beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account at key educational milestones. Phased Support Through Key Milestones Under the Lakhpati Bitiya framework, families will receive financial deposits in instalments tied to important stages in a girl’s education and growth. The total assistance initially comes to about ₹56,000 through scheduled payments, which accrue interest over time and mature into a sum exceeding ₹1 lakh by the time the beneficiary completes graduation or turns 21.
